What began as a welcome back songbird festival has grown into a two-day celebration of Wakulla Spring Basin's natural environment and rich heritage. The annual Wakulla Wildlife Festival will be held March 19-20, 2010. In addition to premium guided tours on Friday through Saturday, March 19-20, 2010, the Wakulla Wildlife Festival is again sponsoring Art on the Terrace at Wakulla Springs Lodge, Friday from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. The hard-working folks of a not-so-distant past will appear in a segment entitled Living History Demonstrations on Saturday between 10 am and 4 pm.
Your $6 per vehicle donation to The Friends of Wakulla Springs supports the shows and programs at Wakulla Springs State Park on Saturday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Among these is a presentation regarding common butterflies that thrive in the Florida Panhandle, the fancy clogging footwork of the Hot Pepper Steppers, and a cave diver’s view of the largest submerged cave system in the United States.
Join the Center for Wildlife Education, Georgia Southern University, for four exciting shows. Be mesmerized as you discover the mysterious vital role snakes and lizards play in our world. Eagles, hawks and owls swoop overhead while their handlers present predator/prey relations and raptors as indicators of environmental health. There will be considerable audience participation.
Musicians celebrating the natural environment include Jonny Lipford's live contemporary Native American flute performance during the Art on the Terrace and silent auction on Friday evening, March 19th. Jonny plays again on Saurday, March 20th along with the bluegrass sounds of Scrub Oaks, Coon Bottom Creek and 'Pickin' & Grinnin'. Festival goers who will mingle on the green outside the bathhouse at Wakulla Springs State Park between 10:30 am and 4:00 pm are sure to be delighted by the upbeat entertainment.
